A rare genuine barn find, having been in storage for the past 20+ years! And has spent as far as I can tell, all of its life in Cambridgeshire. 1978 Range Rover Suffix F, in the most desirable Bahama Gold. The Suffix F being one of the more desirable of the 2 doors, coming later on without the teething problems as seen with the earlier models. I bought this car earlier in the year having come straight out of a barn with ideas of restoring it and keeping it for my collection.
But a change in circumstances, time and commitments means I have to pass the torch over to somebody else. I have even bought all the required parts from a matching Suffix F to make this a very good and original running motor. (it even comes with the all weather, water proof StormForce car cover). The body work is clean and straight, it has been resprayed from the waist line down where a previous owner put a green stripe in.
The undercarriage is in good, strong and clean condition, which is a massive bonus, only light surface rust in the obvious places. The boot floor is quite corroded so will require attention and the inside of the roof behind the boot window features rust so that will need looking at. In 1983 it was bought by a gentleman in cambridgshire who owned a motor workshop and replaced the sills as this was the first place for them to go and added a mini RSJ to the inside of the sill for the chassis to bolt onto and was heavily painted so no rot can reoccur. He also replaced the engine with a later perkins Diesel. I have the invoice for this work.
A conversion kit was used in the changeover so all the original drivetrain parts are still there for the replacement engine to go straight in. Note: I have a matching and running Suffix F engine to go back into it. The gentleman who did this work is still alive and knows the car well and I have his details, so is contactable for the new owner to talk to. The interior is also in surprisingly good condition, small tear to right side of drivers seat and sagging head lining.
In Febuary 1996 it was aquired by a Mr Anthony Alfred Oliver Baxter who used it for his country pursuits, in Jan `98 it was bought by a Mr Peter Angel Bruce Horner who used it for his work for a couple of years before retiring it to his barns. Mot`s issued Feb `97 records 47,588 & March `98 record 53,100 on the mileage. The parts I bought for the restoration come from a Suffix F only reason that vehicle was being dismantled was because of a building falling on it!
And are all included in the sale and are photographed in the boot. Here is a brief list.
Running Suffix F V8 engine (mileage on vehicle it came of was approx 63,000) with all ancilliaries and power steering pump. Cooling fan cowling and brackets. All the pipes and cables.
Rear passenger side sliding window. Even a fully charged working land rover battery! I have lots of extra photos of undercarriage ect, including photos of when it first came out of the barn!
